What is Metafiction? • Meta-fiction, also known as Romantic irony in the context of Romantic works of literature, is a type of fiction that self-consciously addresses the devices of fiction, exposing the fictional illusion.
What is the Difference? • In Meta fiction the character will allude to either literary or other conventions used in the relevant media, without out right stating a question to the audience. • When the 4th wall is broken the character will outright address the audience with no pretence of staying in setting, detracting from the audience immersion.
