  3. Technology is Important 85% of growth in U.S. income per capita over the last 25 years is due to technological change.

  4. The World is Flat Friedman suggests that the world is "flat" in the sense that the competitive playing fields between industrial and emerging market countries are leveling. Increase number of young people in Fort Leonard Wood Region interested in and prepared to pursue STEM careers • Typical STEM Initiatives • MathCounts • Science Olympiad • Science Fairs • Summer camps • Robotics Programs (Lego, BEST) • Project Lead the Way

  10. Project Lead The Way • Introduces engineering curriculum at middle and high school levels • National program with over 90 school districts in Missouri offering the program • Active programs in Lebanon, Rolla, Camdenton • Mo S&T provides state-wide support • Waynesville SD needs to be next

Progress To-Date Summer Science Camps 16 kids participated through SAME funding Cost $8,000 + Sponsorships Rotary Club of Pulaski County AME Advancia Bleeding Edge Systems Paragon Siemens Berger, Devine Yeager Architects Louis Berger Group • Science Fairs • Over 1,500 kids participated • Four school districts in Pulaski County • Over 75 volunteer judges • Partnership with Rotary Club of Pulaski County • MathCounts • Rolla School District • 50 kids participated • Science Olympiad • Lebanon School District • 35 kids participated
