SCOPUS • Scopus is a multidisciplinary database that contains records going back to the mid 1960s, offering newly-linked citations across the widest body of scientific abstracts available in one place. • It is the largest abstract and citation database of peer reviewed literature • Please keep in mind that the coverage and indexing of Scifinder Scholar and Scopus differ.  It is always advisable to search more than one database when an exhaustive search is needed. 

  3. SCOPUS - Coverage • Contains 49 million records, 70% with abstracts • 28 million 1996 to the present • 21 million Pre 1996 • Over 19,500 titles from 5,000 publishers worldwide • Includes over 5.3million conference papers • 2 million records added yearly • Provides 100% Medline coverage

SCOPUS • Advantages • Multidisciplinary • Can get citations not found in Scifinder • Can rank references by relevancy • Can provide alerts by e-mail or RSS feeds • Easy to view citing references • Easy to link to full-text • Can easily distinguish authors • Disadvantages • Coverage is uneven prior to 1996 • CAS registry number searches are not exhaustive • Does not give physical property data directly • Not exhaustive for finding cited references for older authors

Cited Reference Searching • Is finding out who has cited the relevant article since its publication • It is a way of looking forward • Cited reference analysis is used to evaluate faculty for promotion and/or tenure • This can be done in Scopus and ScifinderScholar • Values are likely different in the two databases since the journal coverage is not the same

  9. Business Source Premier • This is the industry's most popular business research database, features the full text for more than 2,100 journals. Full text is provided back to 1965, and searchable cited references back to 1998.

Generally, the term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in the United States or, in special cases, from the date an earlier related application was filed, subject to the payment of maintenance fees. U.S. patent grants are effective only within the United States, U.S. territories, and U.S. possessions. Under certain circumstances, patent term extensions or adjustments may be available.
