Falcon District 49’s online blended learning options • Currently Falcon District is in their 2nd year of using digital learning options. Growing exponentially! • District wide credit recovery labs (iConnect for Credit) • Ran by 1 part-time employee and mentors in school labs • District Middle schools use online learning (Aventa curriculum) in SIED classrooms • Ran by SIED classrooms teachers • District High schools use online learning labs for Core curriculum • Offer individual supplemental online courses to any 6-12 students • Future plan includes potential elementary models, expansion of middle and high school offering • Falcon Virtual Academy (District Online school) uses a full blended enrichment model
Project based learning model Falcon Virtual Academy • Students: 344 (K-12) • Teachers: 9 • 3 elementary • 4 core secondary • 1 SpEd • 1 RtI coordinator/Blended Learning Teacher • Staff: 4 • 1 administrator • 1 counselor • 1 operations manager • 1 student support coach
Experiential, Enrichment Project based learning model Falcon Virtual Academy Enrollment Options: • Home-Based (70%) Students take online classes from home, supported by district teachers. • Blended-Enrichment (30%) Students take online classes from home AND enrichment elective courses on campus.
Response to Intervention (RtI) • A school-wide, multi-level instructional and behavioral system for preventing school failure • Screening • Progress monitoring- www.easycbm.com • Data-based decision making for instruction and movement within the tier structure • The bridge between general education and special education
FVA RTI Process • 100% student monitoring • Primary diagnostic tool is SCANTRON • Teachers monitor overall progress • Data analysis is performed to identify students for additional reading, writing and math • Data analysis is also used for students that haven’t made adequate yearly progress • Weekly RtIteacher progress monitoring • Weekly contact with students in the form of F2F, text, e-mail, k-mail, phone or online
Interventions Proving to be successful in our school • Reading Plus (3-12 grades) • Really Great Reading (Phonemic Awareness) • TenMarksMath (2-12 grades) • Online and in person writing labs • Online meetings with teachers for additional support
Why Blended?
