Fever. • 1. If your body temperature goes above 37 C, then you are suffering from a fever. • 2. You tend to sweat a lot as the body tries to bring your temperature down. • 3. Most increases in temperature are caused by infection.
Hypothermia 1. • 1. This happens when the body falls below a certain temperature. • 2. If the body is too low in temperature for too long, it can result in death. • 3. Hypothermia mostly occurs with elderly people.

A Balanced Diet 1. • A balanced diet should contain the following :- • 1. Fats • 2. Carbohydrates • 3. Proteins • 4. Vitamins • 5. Minerals
A Balanced Diet 2.Fats • 1. These are foods that are quite high in energy content. • 2. They are good for storing energy during winter when it is needed. • 3. Too many fat based foods can make people obese. • 4. They can also cause cholesterol in the veins and arteries which cause them to fur up like blockages in pipes.
1. These are starchy foods like bread potatoes and pastas. 2. They are a good source of energy . 3. The calories from them can be burned off quickly. 4. If not they appear as fat. A Balanced Diet 3.Carbohydrates
A Balanced Diet 4.Proteins • 1. These are used for the growth and repair of body tissue. • 2. Protein deficiency can result in malnutrition. • 3. Meat supplies or alternatives give us our supply of proteins.

Eating too much. • 1. Our bodies burn up the food we eat. • 2. This gives us energy for our muscles to work. • 3. The more our muscles work,the more energy and food we need. • 4. If we eat more food than we need,the extra is turned into fat. • 5. Being fat is unhealthy and affects our heart.

Anorexia. • 1. This is a serious eating disorder which mainly affects young girls. • 2. It is related to bulimia,another eating disorder. • 3. Anorexics believe they need to lose weight and continually diet to do so. • 4. It is a psychological problem and in extreme cases can lead to death.
The affects of alcohol 1. • 1. Alcohol is a drug. • 2. Alcohol affects your brain by blocking messages to your senses. • 3. Alcohol slows down your reactions. • 4. Alcohol is measured in units. • 5. One unit of alcohol consists of a) a small whisky, b)a glass of wine, c) a half pint of beer.

Healthy Bodies Unit 5 Fitness and Health. • By the end of this unit you should :- • 1. Be able to name 3 aspects of fitness. • 2. Know that regular exercise improves fitness. • 3. Be able to describe the differences between the 3 aspects of fitness.
Fitness and health 1.Stamina. • 1. This can be described as having staying power. • 2. Sports in which you need to have stamina include swimming ,jogging , rowing and cycling. • 3. The heart and lungs need to be in good working order. • 4. Recovery rate is usually quick from exercise.
Fitness and health 2.Strength. • 1. The muscles need to be strong and in good working order. • 2. Sports include weight lifting, rowing, swimming and gymnastics.
Fitness and health 3.Suppleness. • 1. The body can be capable of being moved into different positions without being stiff. • 2. Lots of stretching exercises are needed to improve this aspect of fitness. • 3. Sports needing suppleness include dancing, gymnastics, judo, swimming and yoga.
