  1. Skeletal System Joints

  2. What are joints? A place in the body where two bones come together is called a joint. There are two types of joints; immovable and moveable. Moveable joints allow the body to make a wide range of movements, whereas immovable joints allow little to no movement at all.

  3. Moveable Joints

  4. Ball-and-Socket joint Ball and socket joints allow the greatest range of motion. This joint allows you to move in a 360 degree range of motion Examples – shoulder and hip

  5. Pivot Joint A pivot joint allows one bone to rotate around another. Examples – The joint at the top of your neck

  6. Hinge Joint The hinge joint allows extensive forward or backward motion, like a hinge of a door. Examples – knee joint, elbow joint

  7. Gliding Joint A gliding joint allows one bone to slide over another. You are able to bend and flex as well as make limited side-to-side motions. Examples – wrist or ankle
