2. Olympic Games are the greatest international sports games in the world. The Olympic Games have an interesting and long history. The competitions of athlets took place in Greece. They were only for men. It was twenty eight centuries ago in 776 B.C.

3. The most important competitions in Olympia were named the Olympic Games. They were held every four years. The Olympic Games included events in racing, boxing, jumping, horse racing and wrestling. The International Olympic Committee was set up and began to work in 1896. There were competitions in many kinds of sports: jumping, running, boxing, swimming, football, basketball and others. Summer and Winter Games are held separately.

4. The 30 Olympic games were in London. It was the third Olympic games which took place in the capital of Great Britain. The first games were held in 1908, the second – 1948. The third Olympic games began in summer 2012. The games were opened on the twenty seventh of July.

5. London Olympics. Two hundred and four countries took part in the Olympic games. There were a lot of sports objects in London. They were divided into three main parts: 1- Olympic part (in the Olympic Park ), 2 – River part ( along the River Thames ), 3 – Central part ( in the centre of London).

6. There were nearly thirty kinds of sports games in the programme. Some of them are: athletics, swimming, hockey on the grass, basketball, boxing, table tennis, fighting, badminton, horse racing, football, cycling, volleyball and others.

8. The emblem of the games consisted from four figures – «2», «0», «1», «2» and the word «London». There was the sight of Olympic rings. They had four colours: blue, green, orange and yellow. The hymn of the Olympic games in London was the song «Survival». It was sang by the group «Muse».

9. The relay – race of the Olympic Fire began on the nineteenth of May to the twenty seventh of July 2012. There were made two thousand and one hundred medals. Each medal weighed four hundred grammes. The goddess of Victory – Nika and the River Thames were illustrated on the medal. David Watkins was the author of the medal.

10. When the games were over, the USA was on the first place, china – on the second, Great Britain – on the third and Russia – on the fourth place. Great Britain had 29 gold medals, 17 silver and 19 bronze medals. Russia had 24 gold medals, 26 silver and 32 bronze medals. The Olympic games were closed on the twelfth of August. The competitions were finished. Everybody couldn’t become the winner.

12. Sochi Olympics. Sochi Olympic Games began on the seventh of February in 2014. It was the 22 winter Olympic Games. It was the second games, which were in Russia. The first games were in Moscow in 1980.

13. The charm of the games were White Bear, Leopard and Hare. The author of the talisman was Olga Belyaeva.

14. The relay – race of the Olympic Fire began on the seventh of October in 2013 in Moscow. The fire was brought in the eighty third cities of Russia. The fire was in the Baikal, on Elbrus and in the space too.

15. The Opening of the Olympic Games took place on the stadium «Fisht» on the 7 of February at 20:14. That show lasted three hours. Three milliard people have watched it on TV. The President of Russia – Vladimir Putin and the president of the International Sports Committee – Thomas Barh spoke at the opening of the Olympic Games. The hymn of Russia was sounded on the stadium. There were spoken about Russian culture, traditions, history and costoms. Twelve thousand people worked on this holiday. Eighty eight countries took part in the Olympic Games.

16. There were fifteen kinds of sports competitions in Sochi. For example: figure skating, skiing, hockey, skeleton, free style and others.

17. There were made one thousand and three hundred medals. On one side you can see Olympic rings, on the other – «Sochi – 2014». Each medal had weight five hundred and thirty one grammes. The medals were made by «Adamas» company.

18. Russia has taken the first place. We are proud of all our sportsmen. Russia had thirteen gold medals, thirteen silver and nine bronze medals. The second place had Norway and Canada had the third. All the sportsmen did their best; they tried to become the winners. Russian winners had got new own cars, the presents and some money.

19. On the twenty third of February in 2014 the Olympic Games were finished. All the winners were rewarded. There were many colourful fireworks on the stadium. After that people didn’t want to leave the stadium and began dancing. All the people were happy, merry, friendly, but a bit sad.

20. The Paralympic games. The Olympic Games for disabled people took place in Sochi too. The games began from the seventh to the sixteenth of March in 2014. The opening of the Games was at the stadium «Fisht» too. The charm of the Olympic Games were the Ray and the Snow-flake.

21. Five hundred and fifty five participants from fourty five countries took part in the Olympic Games for disabled people. These sportsmen have problems with their health. Some of them have no legs, the others – have no hands. Besides they have strong will and great wish to live. One hundred and forty disabled people took park in the opening of the Olympic Games. Some of them sang songs, others – danced in the disabled carriages. It was a fantastic show!

22. Russian sportsmen have made the best result. They have won-eighty medals: thirty gold, twenty eight silvar and twenty two bronze medals. Russia was on the first place, Germany-on the second and Canada has taken the third place. The Olympic Games were closed on the sixteen of March. The next Olympic Games will be in Korea.

23. The Olympic Games were a holiday for all the people. They became the symbol of peace, health and friendship. The Olympic Games were set just to stop all the wars in the world.

24. Many people want the Olympic Games to be held in their cities. The Olympic Games were held in the cities of Europe, America, Asia and Australia.

25. People want to live in peace, love and friendship. They would like to understand each other and get on well too!
