  1. Why Software Can Never Replace a Human Search Engine Marketing Consultant In a world where everyone wants to automate as much of their lives – business and personal – as possible the idea that you can buy a software program that takes care of all your SEO efforts for you is certainly an appealing one. SEO on auto-pilot, your website shoots to Google page one, no thought or real effort required. And no need to hire a search engine marketing consultant to help you. If only it were that easy… Humans Vs. Bots Whatever you may read online, SEO optimization both on your website and supporting efforts off it – content marketing, social media marketing – is about a lot more than picking the right keywords and adding x number of headers or amassing a ton of Twitter followers and Facebook fans. And contrary to what you might have heard SEO is not easy, which is why the role of search engine marketing consultant came to be in the first place. There are indeed all kinds of software out there that claim they will find you all kinds of relevant fans or help you spin one article into 700 that will all pass the increasingly high standards of the search engines (they won’t, original content, on and off-site is all the search

  2. engines are looking for these days.) But the fact is that no software program, however cool it sounds will replace human marketing efforts and the expertise of a real search engine marketing consultant. More so than ever with the rise of social media as both a way to interact with your audience and a way to get a leg up in the SERPs, understanding what your target audience really wants is the key to SEO success and building a business website that works. As any software is essentially lines of code it can never replace the time a human can spend reading through comments and tweets to understand what your audience is really saying. It takes a human brain to predict what another human brain wants. Technology Does Have Its Place There is no doubt however that technology does have a place in the world of SEO. The majority of those who implement SEO for a living use a wide array of different software-based tools to help them make crucial SEO decisions or speed the process up a little but a good SEO practitioner does not rely on these tools alone to make all the decisions for them or to do all the hard work and neither should you. The idea of using one of the many social media auto schedulers to schedule a months’ worth of tweets and status updates in a day seems like a great way to take care of your social media pages but where is the interaction with your audience in that? And keyword tools are certainly very nifty and very helpful as a starting point, but in the end it takes a human brain to take a considered step back, look at and analyse the content of their own website and what its goals really are and make decisions on which of the keywords from that auto-generated spreadsheet will actually attract the audience they are looking for. Keeping Up with the Times SEO, and digital marketing in general, is hard work. If it were easy, everyone would have a successful website and the Google bots would be spinning around in circles trying to determine who belonged on page one because every site they crawled was so great. There is no magic formula either, as best SEO practices literally change every day. For example, once upon a time, not so long ago every webmaster in the world spent hours and hours worrying about their website’s meta keywords tags, only to have Google turn around and reveal that they paid no attention to such things and had not for years! Good SEO means keeping up with the times as well, which means reading the Google blogs, the Bing blogs, paying attention to what is and is not working and being willing to make changes as needed. If you do not have the time to do the work yourself there is no harm in getting a little outside help but that help, in order to be effective and actually offer a return on your investment should be a human search engine marketing consultant, not a box full of software.
