5 star rating I decided to give Golf San Antonio and the Valero Texas Open 4 out of 5 stars. 4 was a suitable number because the internship was such a great experience, but I feel like my time was not always used to the fullest at the beginning. I learned so much and I made great relationships during the 13 weeks. With an event as large as the Texas Open, they allowed me to be in charge of multiple events and projects which was great hands on experience. Organization and time management is where they lost their 5th star.

The Winnings I was given the opportunity to present Ben with is $1,116,000.00 check! I took the trophy to get cleaned before the presentation.
Words of wisdom • Work hard, and accomplish much • Take a notepad and pen with you everywhere you go so you do not miss anything • Speak up and volunteer for everything you can • Take time to get to know the people you are working with • Be “Unapologetically Texan”
Internship objectives 1. I would like to gain as much experience in managing a large number of people during the event planning process and help them be as informed as possible to make the event run as smooth as possible. The Valero Texas Open runs on volunteers and I think it’s a great responsibility to learn how to inform and manage over 1000 volunteers. 2. While I am interning at Golf San Antonio, I would like to develop the skills that I am going to need when I start to look for a career. Computer skills, industry knowledge, making positive business relationships with people that I meet, and feeling comfortable in this setting are some skills I will be acquiring.3. I would like to capitalize on my leadership skills in a different setting like a business setting. I am used to being a leader in a sports or active setting, so I look forward into testing my leadership skills in this internship.4. In this experience, I want to find my niche, or something that I know I am good at, and that I really enjoy doing so that I can be more prepared going into a career after graduation.
Day to day activities While interning at Golf San Antonio and the Valero Texas Open, my day to day activities changed about half way through. The first half of my internship we were working out of the Valero Energy Corporation facility. There everything I did was based on a computer. I processed volunteer registration forms and payments that came from our website and through the mail. Once processed, I was able to assign them to their suggested volunteer committees. I also would check my own personal email and check the Valero Texas Open email to answer any questions that sponsors or prospective volunteers had. I usually made new labels and envelopes, and helped record charity money through our system. We moved out to the JW Marriott at the beginning of March and my normal day to day activities changed instantly. I was rarely at my desk because there was so much to be down around the resort. These day to day activities changed everyday. The normal routine in the morning was to check both email and assign volunteers to their suggested committees. Our afternoons usually consisted of meetings with decorators and the event management staff about where our events were going to take place, what would be served, and explain to them a run of show as far as music and speakers. We also had to set up tables and signs throughout the coarse, decorate the sky boxes for our top sponsors, as well as get to know the coarse so that we were able to answer any questions that spectators and working volunteers had. Once tournament came, it was our job to make sure to run through the coarse every few hours to make sure everything was running smoothly.
Summary of Project My project was to create a Nature Walk for the company Nature Valley throughout the golf course during the Valero Texas Open. With the beautiful scenery of TPC at the JW Marriott. Nature Valley would like to have eight booths throughout the course with information about different forms of nature found on the course. These forms of nature will include a map of locations of the booths throughout the course, the waterfall and water preservation throughout the course, the rocks and fossils you may find, the history of the land, the wildlife, the flowers and grass, the Audobon, and one other station that I am still trying to decide what to do. At each station, flyers will be available along with a Nature Valley product, as well as a visual of each thing we are talking about. On Saturday and Sunday of the tournament, Boy Scouts in San Antonio. As for Thursday and Friday, I am trying to find some Nature Groups in San Antonio that will be willing to volunteer to work each booth. If all goes well, Nature Valley would like to incorporate this into all of their PGA tours.
