Enzyme Lab. Enzyme Reaction. 2H 2 O 2 → 2H 2 O + O 2 Hydrogen peroxide → water and oxygen uses catalase. ARE ENZYMES SPECIFIC?. Are Enzymes specific to a certain substrate? In other words, do enzymes work on more than one substance or do they specifically work on just one?

ARE ENZYMES SPECIFIC? • Are Enzymes specific to a certain substrate? In other words, do enzymes work on more than one substance or do they specifically work on just one? • Enzymes are specific. They work on just one substrate.
ARE ENZYMES REUSABLE? • Yes. Enzymes can work again and again.
HOW DOES TEMPERATURE AFFECT ENZYME FUNCTION? • High and low temperatures cause enzymes to stop working.
Mono, Di, and Polysaccharide • Monosaccharide- • Apple juice • Disaccharide- • Sugar water • Polysaccharide- • Starch Water
Mono, Di, and Polysaccharide • Monosaccharides turn orange in hot water in the presence of benedicts solution. • Polysaccharides turn blue-black in the presence of iodine.
Elodea and salt water • What happens when salt is added to an elodea leaf? • It pulls the water out of the cells. The cells shrink. This happens because the solution outside the cell is hypertonic and the solution inside the cell is hypotonic.
Permeability Lab Starch and water are inside the plastic bag. Iodine is in the water in the beaker. What happens to the iodine? It diffuses into the bag and causes the starch to turn black. Does the starch leave the bag? No, it is too big to fit through the pores of the bag.
Photosynthesis in Elodea Lab What happens when plants are given a source of carbon dioxide (baking soda) and light? They perform photosynthesis. What type of gas is released? Oxygen.
