  1. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 Ms. Blalock, Ms. Hartsell, Mr. Luckman

  2. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #1: Choose ONE station manager for your group. This person will be responsible for getting materials from the teacher at each step. • Choose ONE laptop handler. This person will be responsible for going through the Power Point and reading directions.

  3. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #1 (continued): Choose ONE measurer. This person will use a ruler to measure the height of the foam later on in the experiment. • Choose ONE time keeper. This person is responsible for keeping the group on task and making sure work is getting done in the amount of time given.

  4. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #2: Have the station manager go collect the following materials: • Test tubes in the test tube rack • Ruler • You should have 6 test tubes each filled with: • Hydrogen peroxide • Food coloring (this makes seeing the foam easier)

  5. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #3: Have the station manager go collect the following materials: • One small piece of raw potato • Add the raw potato to Test Tube #1

  6. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #4: Have the station manager go collect the following materials: • One small piece of boiled potato • Add the boiled potato to Test Tube #2

  7. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #5: Have the station manager go collect the following materials: • One small piece of frozen potato • Add the frozen potato to Test Tube #3

  8. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #6: Have the station manager go collect the following materials: • One small piece of potato in vinegar (acid) • Add the potato in vinegar to Test Tube #4

  9. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #7: Have the station manager go collect the following materials: • One small piece of potato in ammonia (base) • Add the potato in ammonia to Test Tube #5

  10. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Step #8: Have the station manager go collect the following materials: • One small piece of crushed potato • Add the crushed potato to Test Tube #6

  11. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Go back to Test Tube #1 and record your observations of what happened after you added the potato. • Using the ruler, measure and record the height of the foam (if any) in your table in your Guided Notes. • Repeat this step for all 6 test tubes.

  12. Fill this out in your Guided Notes!

  13. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 EVERYONE MUST COMPLETE THEIR OWN GUIDED NOTES!

  14. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • Create a bar graph of your results in your Guided Notes. • Make sure you label the y-axis with units!

  15. Enzyme Lab: Part 4 • You have now completed Part 4. You no longer need a laptop, so have the laptop handler return the computer to the laptop cart. • Continue on with Part 5 in your Guided Notes.
