Chromatography Our goal was to separate the pigments in a leaf. We wanted to learn about what the pigments in a leaf where and why they could be separated.
Methods First, we ground up our leaves in a mortar & pestle and put the mush in the test tubes. Next, we partially filled the test tubes with ethanol and heated it for 10 min. After that, we poured the ethanol in a beaker and painted a line on the chromatography paper. Lastly, we hung it up over another solvent and waited.
The Results The chromatography paper had spread out the pigments into mountain ranges of yellows and green. Though, not all of us got the same results because we didn’t have the exact same leaves.
Tie-dye • The Tie-dye was just a fun thing we did that had to do with chromatography. • All you did was rubber-band clothe over a cup, • draw with sharpie on the cloth, • And put a couple of drops of ethanol on the space.
Black Cultural Center • On Thursday afternoon, we visited the B.C.C • There, we learned African American Culture. • Our favorite activity was a fun blindfold game we played. • Our group feels this activity is important and should be continued for future years.
