PERSONAL CONSTITUTION (PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT): HOMEWORK 1: 1- Where will I be one year after my graduation? Which type of qualifications should I have? Think about those qualifications by using the following factors that fits you: Job/Status, b) Private Life (marriage, children etc.), c)Personal skills (sports, literature, music, new foreign language, computer, field of interests etc.). 2- Where will I be ten years after my graduation? Which type of qualifications should I have? Think about those qualifications by using the following factors that fits you: Job/Status, b) Private Life (marriage, children etc.), c)Personal skills (sports, literature, music, new foreign language, computer, field of interests etc.). 3- With what qualifications should I leave this world (job, status, personal skills)? And what should the people (spouse, children, colleagues, etc.) around me think about me? 4- Give 3 principles that will guide your life (ex. honesty, courage, etc.). Note: Mission statements are flexible and must be updated according to the changing conditions. HOMEWORK 2: 10 TASKS TO DO (TO REACH YOUR CAREER OBJECTIVE): In order to reach your career objective one year after graduation, write 10 things that you have to do during the following one year’s time: Ex: 1. Focus on your courses in order to graduate in time, 2. Think about the most suitable job for you, 3. Choose an alternative job also, as a plan B, 4. Consult to your instructors and wise people to get more information about these jobs(how to enter, what to study, which opportunities these jobs offer (salary, promotion possibilities, work atmosphere…), 5. Find a person who is currently working at this job and get his/her suggestions, 7. Do sports to increase your fitness level…
The last thing that you have to do with your mission statement is to sort the 10 tasks section according to the importance of each item. “1” is the most important and “10” is the least important one. After you organize the list, the first twotasks(20% of 10 items) will be responsible for the 80 % of the outcomes. That means if you can eliminate first 20 % of your problem causes, you will solve 80 % of your problem. This is called The Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule). It states that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. In our example if you can complete the first 2 tasks in your mission statement, you will clear 80 percent of the blocks/barriers on the road taking you to the inspector/specialist position at an organization (public, private, voluntary). And please do not hesitate to add new items that you might have forgotten/overlooked or learnt while consulting to your instructors, etc. Always make a plan B, for example if I can not be a specialist what else I can do as an alternative to this position (alternatives must be related to your plan A). For example alternative to a specialist position can not be “being a musician” (Please update your mission statement every year).
