  3. Lines • The Standard Form of a line is Ax+By=C Note: A is a whole number and both A&B are not both equal to zero. • The Slope-Intercept Form is y=mx+b Note: m is the slope and b is the y-intercept Algebra 2

  4. Lines Slope: In Standard Form, the slope of a line is –A/B In Slope-intercept form, the slope is m A horizontal line has a slope of zero A vertical line has slope undefined Algebra 2

  5. Lines Graphing a line using the slope and a point We first plot our point… then if the slope is positive, we go up and to the right or negative we go down and to the right. Algebra 2

  11. Lines One final point (pun): • A line is a straight curve • A line that intersects with a circle at one point, and the radius also shares that one point is called a point of tangency. (a right angle is formed) • Tangency is studied in curves in Calculus Algebra 2
