What IS a computer? Computers are not very intelligent devices, but they handle instructions flawlessly and fast. They must follow explicit directions from both the user and computer programmer. Computers are really nothing more than a very powerful calculator with some great accessories. Applications like word processing and games are just a very complex math problem.
The Hardware! • Tools, machinery, wiring, and other physical components of a computer or other electronic system, is known as hardware.
Input device- used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system. Examples: keyboard, mouse, web cam, CD-ROM, scanner, and a joystick.
Output Devices- any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system. Examples: Moniter, and printer
Storage Devices-a piece of computer equipment on which information can be stored. Examples: hard disk drives, and floppy disks
Operating System Software! Operating system software provides a "user interface" for users to manage files, start programs, customize computer settings, and other tasks. The operating system also provides the fundamental core computer functionality for programmers • Intel based PCs use Microsoft Windows version 3.1 (older) or Windows 95 as the operating system. Macintoshes use the Macintosh operating system.
Software Applications-Application software uses the operating system software and provides the real functionality of a computer. Applications include: - Microsoft Word- Microsoft Excel- Microsoft Access- Microsoft Powerpoint- Internet Explorer- Games
Conclusion! The computer can be used in several different ways which include : storing important information, accessing the internet, or creating certain documents. This powerpoint was created in order to inform others about the usage and concepts of a computer and its components.
