Summary • The Massachusetts Life Sciences Sectors have become over the past decade a major industrial force in the Commonwealth … and we clearly lead the nation in this respect. • Life Sciences Sector growth was particularly important to the economy during the Great Recession when little employment was being generated elsewhere in the Massachusetts economy. • Beyond the promise the Life Sciences is bringing us in terms of healthier, longer lives, it has proven to be a major economic engine for the Commonwealth both in terms of its direct job creation and the indirect and induced jobs it has fostered. • Focusing the Commonwealth’s attention on this vital sector has already paid large dividends … and is poised to continue to do so for years to come.
