CBM Physical Asset Management Certificate Program Murray Wiseman, VP Technology Optimal Maintenance Decisions (OMDEC) Inc. murray@omdec.com, wiseman_m@dnd.nete.ca www.LivingRCM.com | Workshop 2 and 3 Sr. Engineer, Naval Engineering & Test Estab. mob: +1 514 562 1060 skype: murraywiseman Delivered by: Nov 4, 2008:

  2. Basics Influences on Failure

  3. Item has highest tendency to fail around here (highest probability density) Expected (average) failure time (MTTF) Failures do not happen at fixed times. They occur randomly based on a distribution. PDF f(t) Working Age t

  4. PDF f(t) Working Age t 100 FE ppm

  5. Formal Definition of CBM (condition based maintenance) The gathering, processing, and analyzing of relevant data and observations, in order to make good and timely decisions on whether to: • Intervene immediately and conduct maintenance on an equipment at this time, or to • Plan to conduct maintenance within a specified time, or • Continue operating the equipment until the next CBM inspection interval. Where applicable and effective, CBM is the preferred form of maintenance. CBM is also known as on-condition maintenance and predictive maintenance. Applicable: Practical, realistic.Effective: Increases reliability (availability, productivity, quality, safety, economy) without exceeding any environmental regulated levels.
