Joanna Stolarczyk OBESITY INAMERICA
My research question • Who is affected by obesity and what are the solutions?
Introduction • What is obesity? • How do we know if we are obese?
Research • Approximately 69% of adults are overweight or obese, which is 78million adult Americans (NHANES,2013) • Sedentary life-style (NHANES,2013) • Risk factor for a variety of chronic conditions (Hogan, 2012) • “The longer a person is overweight, the harder it becomes for them to lose weight” (Nordqvist,2010)
Solutions • Bariatric surgery (Nordqvist,2010) • Consider what you eat ~Americans spend over $30 billion on junk-food snacks (Lumpin,2013) • We as people cause our on problems
Primary Research • McDonald’s • Observations
What I found? • 12/30 males during lunch and 9/20 during dinner • 5/30 females during lunch 6/20 during dinner • Car number at drive thru • Not many kids • Males are more obese
What I Learned? • Eating healthy is important • Females vs. Males • Don’t choose a sedentary life-style
What are the solutions?! People should choose a healthier life-style
