Goal Setting / Making a Task List • To start managing time effectively, you need to set goals. When you know where you're going, you can then figure out what exactly needs to be done, in what order. • People tend to neglect goal setting because it requires time and effort. What they fail to consider is that a little time and effort put in now saves an enormous amount of time, effort and frustration in the future.
Prioritizing • Another way to heighten the effectiveness of a to-do or task list is to prioritize • Once you have your to do list set, organize or rank tasks through importance and urgency • Academic > Extracurricular > Leisure
Scheduling • When you know what your goals and priorities are, you then need to know how to go about creating a schedule that keeps you on track, and protects you from stress. • Use tools • Planner • Calendar • Online media
Managing Interruptions • Address the reason(s) for the procrastination and take action against the cause • Learn to Say "No" - It's often acceptable to say "no" to requests or tasks if you are busy when someone else can handle it, if it is not an important task, or if it can be done later. • "Available" and "Unavailable" Time - Simple yet effective: Let people know when you are available. and when you are not.

Procrastination Step 1: Recognize that you are procrastinating • Waiting for the “right mood” or the “right time” to tackle the important task at hand. • Saying "Yes" to unimportant tasks that others ask you to do. • Sitting down to start a high-priority task, and almost immediately going off to do something else
Procrastination Step 2: Identify WHY you are Procrastinating • Task at hand is boring • Feeling overwhelmed • Disorganized
Procrastination Step 3: Adopt Anti-procrastination strategies • Task at hand is boring • Make up your own rewards • Examine the repercussions of not doing the task, or not completing the task on time • Start with some quick, small tasks. It puts you in a working mood accomplishing even small tasks, which starts momentum
Procrastination Step 3: Adopt Anti-Procrastination Strategies • Feeling overwhelmed • Break down the task into smaller segments • Decide to work on difficult tasks during high-energy times, if you are a morning person, work on tasks in the morning, night owls work on projects later on in the day. • Start with some quick, small tasks. It puts you in a working mood accomplishing even small tasks, which starts momentum • Disorganized • Get organized! • Start or Refer to a to-do/task list. • Ask someone else to check up on you, peer pressure works
