Is this Thick? The Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) has many benefits to the state of Delhi. The YAP has received $175 million in order to complete their complicated task to clean up the river Yamuna. With this amount of money, the YAP does everything in its favor to clean up the river. The Yamuna Action Plan’s Home Page states that, in order to clean up the river, public participation is needed. The YAP wants to ensure the widest possible public involvement and cooperation in the efforts at reducing river pollution. The YAP therefore hosts many activities and conventions, and giving speeches to the people of Delhi to give them a better understanding about the heavily polluted Yamuna River, and why something has to be done about it. Moreover, the YAP increases awareness levels about water related issues, use, waste organization, and conservation. Once more, in order for this to happen, public participation is required. Subsequently, the YAP wants to make sure that people’s attitudes and lifestyles are right due to water use, waste disposal, and sanitation (Yamuna Action Plan Home Page). The YAP also wants to make sure that sewage treatment plants are being constructed on the 22 km banks of Delhi (Pandey). The YAP has big plans for the Yamuna River, but they have a nearly impossible task ahead of them. Even though there are many pros about the YAP, the YAP is facing many difficulties as well.
