Mental Health & Well-beingDepression reversible? Dementia not yet?
Adding Years to lifeA life course approach 'helps maintain physical and mental capacity in later life.'

Housing investmentImproves the health and well-being of older people
Access and mobilityDesign a city for older people and you design it for everyone
SecurityMeasures to improve security will improve physical and mental health of older people
WorkOlder people have the potential to contribute more to Sunderland's economy
Older people as a resourceFormal and Informal Older people of all ages are an ‘informal’ resource to family and society. 15% of those aged 65-74 are formal volunteers
EmpowermentOlder people contribute to society & economy but they also want a say in how the city develops
Summary • Our Healthy Ageing Profile has brought together a range of information and services, raising awareness of the issue through it’s production. • The Profile has been shared with partners and organisations throughout the City so that Healthy Ageing issues are understood by decision makers. • The development of the Healthy Ageing Profile has led to our involvement with the WHO Age Friendly City movement, and this is being incorporated into Citywide Regeneration work of connecting with our communities. • The WHO initiative has now been transformed from an information document, has informed organisational thinking and development and has led to a mainstream area of work that will continue to address Healthy Ageing issues.
