  2. Facts about the Sun The sun is the center of the solar system which was then confirmed by Nicolaus Copernicus. The sun is a star, it is a rather ordinary star for not being the largest nor smallest. It is the source of heat which helps humans, plants and animals be able to live on earth and also controls our climate and weather patterns. It is the closest star to earth and the most closely studied. From it we have learned a lot about how life evolves on earth and physical processes which helps us figure out the evolution of stars in general.

  3. Sunspots The surface of the Sun, which is known as the photosphere, is as hot as 5800 degrees celcius. Sunspots are only 3800 degrees celcius; some sunspots can be very large and they can reach to 50,000 km wide in diameter. Sun spots are caused by unknown interactions with the sun’s magnetic field.

  4. What would happen if we didn’t have a sun? Without the Sun, all life on earth would die. The Sun is the main source of energy for earth and all living things on the planet. In addition, if we didn’t have the sun to orbit, Earth would fly into space, moving in an infinite line.
