  2. The French Paradox • French food doesn’t seem too healthy—lots of: • Butter • Cream • Dairy • Chocolate • Wine • Heart disease: fewer French die than Americans. • Obesity: 7% of French vs. 22% in the US. • Why?

  3. People in France buy fruits and vegetables fresh every day. • Farmers’ markets common. • Wide variety of produce • Variety of fruits and vegetables=healthy

  4. Smaller portion sizes. A University of Pennsylvania study showed: • Average portion size in Paris: 277 grams • Average portion size in Philadelphia: 346 grams.

  5. The French avoid: snacks, microwave meals, and processed foods. • No TV dinners. • No processed, sugary food.

  6. 80% of fat that French people eat is from dairy and vegetables. • The French love cheese • Olive oil instead of butter common

  7. French food is less processed than American food. • Less sugar and salt. • This cola is made of a flower from the mountains.

  8. The French drink a lot of wine. • Contains antioxidants • Prevent heart disease • Live longer • Contains resveratrol (Prevents cancer?)
