  1. Educational Reform

  2. Prompt The current educational system in the United States of America has been in effect for almost two centuries. In the nineteenth century, Horace Mann provided the impetus required to begin public educational reform. As decades passed, several improvements were added to the educational system. With President Bush came the No Child Left Behind Act which required all students to take standardized tests and meet certain proficiency requirements. As the years progressed, problems came up as students faced financial troubles when attempting to pursue a higher level of education or were unable to progress as far as previous generations had. Several administrations have been advocating different methods of educational reform in hopes of improving the state of the educational system in the United States. Carefully read the following four sources. Then synthesize information from the sources and incorporate it into a coherent, well-developed essay that addresses the issues of the current educational system and develops a position on the most important considerations educational systems face when developing policies for educational reform. Make sure that your argument is central; use the sources to illustrate and support your reasoning. Avoid merely summarizing the sources. Indicate clearly which sources you are drawing from, whether through direct quotation, paraphrase, or summary. You may cite the sources as Source A, Source B, etc., or by using the descriptions in the parentheses. Source A (Bidwell) Source B (McMinn) Source C (Cartoon) Source D (Video)
