Knowing Kyle • Strengths: • Excellent home support • Artistic • Science/Nature • Hands-on activities • Detail oriented, if motivated • Concerns: • Math • Reading comprehension • Writing • Attention span • Disorganization Why is it Important? -Lesson modification -Learning environment -Student motivation -Builds bridges that connect the learner with content.

Appropriate adaptations for KyleWhy are they important? • Freedom to choose a reptile/amphibian. • When an individuals interest is tapped, learning is more likely to be rewarding and the student more likely to become an autonomous learner. • Make an adaptation of an expository report • Small group report with choice in tasks (Kyle--illustrator) • This allows students to work in ways that are efficient for them. • Facilitates social interaction with peers. • After Kyle illustrates, he can caption his pictures into a cartoon using the information gathered by his group. • Students learn more effectively when a task structure matches a student’s level of development. • Gives Kyle a writing experience • Provide the student with multiple research options • Supports access to key materials at appropriate challenge levels • Adds the opportunity for physical movement
