  2. Intro • Siemens is in the process of developing a MXL to FireFinder XLS total migration solution

  3. Topics • Why migrate existing installations? • Advantages of Siemens MXL to XLS migration solution • What MXL installations should be targeted for migration? • How to estimate a migration opportunity

  4. Why start the rollout now? • Customer awareness of the ability to migrate • Protection of your installed base • Sales Cycle can take up to 18 months • Customer needs time to plan for upgrade • Must align with customer budget cycle / funding ability

  5. Why Migrating MXL systems is a good business opportunity • It is estimated that over 70,000 MXL systems have been sold since MXL was introduced in 1992 • Early installed systems are prime candidates for migration • Minimizes competition via cost and time effective solution • Profitable business and a win-win solution (sales outlet and end user)

  6. How do you convince a customer to modernize a system? • The components used in legacy fire alarm systems become difficult to secure, resulting in higher maintenance costs • Replacement parts become more expensive or unobtainable • Fire alarm system down for long periods of time. • Siemens provides a cost effective migration solution to modernize the fire alarm system in phases while staying within the customer’s budget • FireFinder XLS uses more advanced technology • FireFinder XLS is an enabler for future technology

  7. Features of the MXL to XLS migration solution • MXL Line Card (MLC) that allows XLS to communicate to existing ALD devices • Enclosure adapters that allow XLS components to fit into existing MXL and MXL-IQ backboxes MSE-2, MSE-2R, MME-3, MME-3R, MBR-2, MLE-6, MLE-6R, MSE-3M, MSE-3MR, MSE-3L, MSE-3LR • Enclosure adapters that allow SSD to fit into remote annunciator backboxes RCC-1, RCC-3, RCC-3R, RCC-1F, RCC-3F, RCC-3FR • Ability to import MXL device custom message database into XLS programming tool which reduces programming time

  8. Advantages • Competitive cost advantage for replacement of installed MXL systems due to ability to keep existing field devices and wiring • Less downtime for fire alarm system during migration • Ability to use existing backbox which eliminates an additional cut-out in the wall • Reduced programming time, reduces labor costs • Gets the customer’s solution accomplished faster than any competitor’s approach • Advanced system with improved response time that is easier to maintain

  9. MXL Configurations to Target • Single node MXL • MXL-IQs without high levelVESDA interface • Single node MXL with transponders • Single node MXLV Voicewith transponders • Networked MXLs • MXL to XLS interpanel logic is not supported (Proper Planning is required)

  10. MXL with XLDs • XLD Loops are required to be replaced with DLCs and H series devices • Please consult Florham Park to ensure DLC and MLC circuits can be run in the same conduit • DLC could cause noise on the MLC circuit with distances over 2000 ft when Unshielded, Untwisted wire is used!
