At Cass Family Dental, our services fall under the general categories of preventive, cosmetic, and restorative. You are probably familiar with what the first two types mean, but may wonder “What is restorative dentistry?” According to the American Dental Association (ADA), restorative dentistry is a broad-level term that refers to any procedure intending to return the teeth, jaws, and gums to a functional and aesthetically pleasing state.
Although the ADA doesn’t recognize restorative dentistry as a specialty, many services under this general category require special skills and training. Dr. BanaMashnouk of Cass Family Dental is a Board Certified dentist with over 15 years of experience in providing all types of dental procedures. Some of the restorative processes she may recommend to you include:
Bridges or Crowns: If you have a single missing tooth, Dr. Mashnouk can attach a dental bridge to the teeth on either side of it to hold your new prosthetic tooth in place. A crown covers the entire top surface of a tooth to save it from further decay by preventing bacteria from reaching it. You may need a crown if your tooth is badly decayed and can’t be saved with a typical filling.
Dental Fillings: You may need a dental filling for a minor cavity, chip, or other damage to your tooth. Dr. Mashnouk fills the tooth with porcelain and silver amalgam to preserve it. • Dental Implants: Dental implants are an alternative to bridges and removable dentures. First, your dentist inserts small titanium screws into your jawbone to hold the new teeth in place. After the area has healed sufficiently, you return to Cass Dental to have your new teeth attached to the abutment posts.
Gum Disease Treatment: Bleeding when brushing your teeth, loose teeth, and bad breath are all common symptoms of gum disease. Almost half of all adults have this problem and don’t even realize it. The staff at Cass Dental performs deep cleaning and scaling to remove plaque from your teeth and debris between teeth and on the gum line.
Root Canal Treatment: During a root canal procedure, Dr. Mashnouk removes infected tooth pulp to prevent further damage or even loss of the tooth. She cleans both the inside and outside of the tooth before securing a dental crown to guard against further infection. The above are only a small sample of the restorative dentistry services we offer at Cass Family Dental. If you have missing teeth or are experiencing frequent dental pain, please contact us to discuss your issue so we can make a plan to treat it.
