Persuasive Essay: Travel You will be writing a persuasive essay on a destination of your choice. You have two options for the structure of your essay. 1). Write a persuasive essay, in which you convince the reader to visit your chosen destination. 2). Write a persuasive letter, in which you convince the reader to take you to your chosen destination for summer vacation.
Assignments • 1. Essay/Letter: Due May 9th • 2. Tri-fold Travel Brochure: Due May 16th • 3. Travel Diary: Due May 16th • 4. PowerPoint & Brief Speech: May 15-21 (Thurs.-Wed.) **This will be the LAST grade entered in IC! It cannot be late!
Essay/Letter • This will be graded using the MGWA rubric. You will receive a score in the areas of ideas, organization, style, and conventions. • Ideas count double. • You must include quotes from at least one print and one web source. • MLA format (heading, font, margins) • Works Cited page is required • 12 pt. Times New Roman font • 1 ½ pg. minimum; 3 pg. maximum
Tri-fold Travel Brochure • Think of each flap as a paragraph topic. • Front: Introduction • Inside: 3 body paragraphs • Back: Conclusion • You will not write your entire essay on your brochure. Simply use the topics of each paragraph to guide you in creating your brochure. • You must include at least 3 pictures.
Travel Diary • Create a travel diary in which you are vacationing at your chosen destination. • Think about what you might do each day. • Your diary should include 7 entries, one for each day of the week. • Each entry should be at least one ½ page. • Each entry should have a different topic. • Examples: Weather, attractions, relaxation, etc. • Make a book jacket for your diary.
PowerPoint & Brief Speech • Make a PowerPoint of pictures. • 10-12 slides • If your PowerPoint is only pictures, write down what you will say about each slide on index cards. • Otherwise, you may include a brief description about each picture on the individual slides.
Library Check-out • Bring your brainstorming chart. • List keywords to search in Galileo.
