Where did the tribe live? Did you know that the Native Americans didn’t have brick houses? My tribe usually built their village around a stream and with a forest near by. I think the way they set up their village had a lot of thought. Back to Table of Contents Photo Credit: image quest
What religion/traditions did theyfollow? Does your family have traditions? Well I do! My tribe is known as the Mohawk because most jobs for men are to sift sand to find gems and bring them to the tribes leader to trade for money. Also as the Europeans came to North America the Iroquois slowly became Christian. I think your religion is a big part of your daily life. Back to Table of Contents Photo Credit: clip art
What kinds of games did they play? A long time ago there were no game consoles to play on so they had to make up games to play so they had something to do. The Iroquois played lacrosse like we do today. But as the ball they took a rock or bone and covered it with deer skin. Also they used sticks and woven grass as the net. What do the people do? Imagine that every day having to go to the lake or stream near by just to get some water! A man’s responsibilities are to hunt or fish for food and to do chores away from home. A women's responsibilities are to care for the family and to be there for the family. The children worked with there mom & dad and did there own chores like made sure no crows were eating out of the corn fields. Back to Table of Contents Photo Credit: clip art
What clothing did they wear? Can you believe there were no stores to buy clothes to wear! As material they used fur, leather (outsides of the animal) beads braided tree and sea sells. The men wore breech locks (shorts/ skirts worn by men. the women wore dresses made by animal hair or fur and beads. I am sooooo happy that I have stores to shop at so I don’t have to make my own clothes. Back to Table of Contents Photo Credit: clip art
