Key Points on the Moulin Rouge • Moulin Rouge means Red Mill-hence the red windmill that sits atop the establishment. • It was opened by Charles Zidler and Joseph Oller • The club attracted all kinds of people. • La Goulue was a famous can-can dancer who made the can-can famous and preformed at the Moulin Rouge. • The club was an outrage to the people of Paris because of the actions that took place inside but many people still loved it. • Several members of the royal family attended shows-sometimes private shows where the club was closed off to everyone but them. • Today the shows are more reserved but still consist of the same elaborateness they have from the very beginning.
