The Law of Origin • Institutions and the people who work in them, must operate in agreement with the reason for their origin and existence, or failure, rather than success, becomes the probability
Human Torch This superhero possesses the capability to engulf his entire body in flames. Fire is foundational and needed for survival. The Law of Origin reminds us that we must operate in agreement with our origin and existence. If you comply with this law, then you have the foundation and skills that are needed to make good educational and leadership practices. We must always ask ourselves “Is this good for students?”
Law of Origin • Reason for our existence • Student centered • Reflected in every decision • Administration..a function • Fulfill the mission • First requirement
Law of Total Responsibility • The leader is responsible for everything that happens within an institution. This principle applies to every level of appointed leadership.
Thing This superhero possesses: super human strength and endurance The Law of Total Responsibility requires great strength and endurance in recognizing that the appointed leader is the one ultimately responsible, “it is not a place for the weak who cannot accept the authority that comes with total responsibility.”
Law of Total Responsibility • Fair or unfair, good or bad, right or wrong it is all inclusive • Failure will result in stagnation of institution if this is not embraced • Facilitates problem solving and provides direction for those who rely on it • Failure reverts upward • Applies to every level of appointed leadership • Responsibility rests at highest levels
Law of Top Down Leadership • The responsibility for leadership should be effected from the top down in any organization.
Mr. Fantastic This superhero: is a genius and can stretch himself to incredible lengths The Law of Total Top Down Leadership requires being a sound leader in every area and having the ability to stretch yourself to necessary lengths to take charge and lead the way
Law of Top Down • Leadership comes from the top • Grass roots result in good leadership • Not truly democratic • Leader’s responsibility • Should not be dependent on process of filtering up
Law of Ever Present Leadership • Whenever two or more people gather, leadership is present. This resulting leadership may be a positive or negative force in the lives of individuals as well as the work of the institution.
Invisible Woman This superhero possesses: the ability to render herself invisible and generate powerful force fields The Law of Ever Present Leadership requires a leader to be a powerful positive force and maintain that leadership position not by title but by establishing a level of respect from the organization they lead
