  3. UNV 101 Review • How many of you completed the UNV 101 orientation? • Questions? Comments? • How does today’s session relate?

  4. Finding Books • To find books on your topic, use the Pace Library Catalog. • The Catalog tells you what the Pace Library owns and where to go to find it. • Request books from within the Pace Library system, and from Connect NY libraries.

  5. Exercise: Find a Book • The Pace Library Catalog is accessible from the Library home page. • http://www.pace.edu/library • Click on Catalog • Click on Keyword • Enter words or phrases that describe your research topic.

  6. Finding Articles • To find articles in magazines, newspapers or journals, use a library database. • Databases are collections of citations, abstracts and sometimes full text articles. • Some are specific to a certain discipline, while some are general or interdisciplinary.

Library Databases vs. Web Search Engines Database • $ - need your library barcode to access off campus • Articles, book chapters, books • Systematically organized Search Engine • Free with Internet access • Virtually every kind of content imaginable, including advertisements, sales sites, articles, book chapters, books • Not centrally organized

Annotated bibliographies • Help… How Do I? … Prepare an Annotated Bibliography. • Correct MLA format for the citation • Paragraph including your description and analysis of the item • Include theme and scope of the work, information on the author, the intended audience, and how the item will be used in your paper.
