El imperfecto You’ve already learned to use the preterite to talk about things you’ve done in the past Spanish, however, has two different past tenses: 1: Preterite 2: Imperfect Completed Actions!!! I ate pancakes this morning. Yocomípanquequesestamañana. Habitual, repeated or ongoing actions in the past!!! I used to play soccer a lot as a child. Yojugaba al fútbol mucho cuando era niño.

  5. El imperfecto Some of the most common uses of the imperfect are: 1. Habitual & repeated actions—actions that were ongoing/continuing: De niño, yoasistía al Colegio Miramar. As a child, I attended the Miramar School. 2. Events/actions that were in progress: Las chicasestudiaban en la biblioteca. The girls were studying in the library. 3. General descriptions (physical characteristics, age, personality etc.): La princesaeramorena y muybonita. Tenía 22 años y era muygenerosa. The princess was brunette and very pretty. She was 22 years old and very generous.

  6. El imperfecto 4. Mental, physical and emotional states/conditions: Ella estabaenferma y no se sentíabien. She was sick and didn’t feel well. 5. Telling time: Eranlasnueve de la noche. It was nine o’clock at night.

  7. El imperfecto Like the preterite, the imperfect has it’s own verb forms. The endings for verbs in the imperfect are… -AR -ER / -IR yo -aba nosotros -ábamos yo -ía nosotros -íamos tú -abas vosotros -abais tú -ías vosotros -íais Ud. -aba Uds. -aban Ud. -ía Uds. -ían Porejemplo… él/ella-aba él/ella-ía ell@s -aban ell@s -ían estaban Carmen y Javier ________________ (estar) enamorados. nosmudábamos De niña mi familia y yo ________________ (mudarse) con mucha frecuenciaporquemis padres siempre ______________ (tener) quecambiar de trabajo con la FuerzaAérea. tenían
