Childhood Reflection • Had a very troubled childhood • Experienced growing up quickly • Due to these experiences she could have created a fantasy world
Mental Health • Mental health experts testified of Puente's abusive upbringing • This motivated her to help the less fortunate • At the same time, they agreed she had an evil side • This was brought on by the stress of caring for her tenants • No real mental disabilities
First Marriage • In 1945 at age 16 married Fred McFaul • Had two daughters • Sent one to live with relatives • Put other up for adoption • He left her in 1948
Second Marriage • In 1952 married a Swede named Axel Johanson • Turbulent 14 year marriage • Divorced in 1966
Third and Fourth Marriages • Roberto Puente • He was 19 years younger • Only lasted 2 years • In 1976 married Pedro Montalvo • Violent alcoholic • Lasted a few months
Adult Life • Never attended high school or college • Found work as a nurses aid • Started to manage boarding houses • In 1968 took over a 3 story, 16 bedroom care home

Arrests • Forged checks – sentenced to a year in jail • 1960: arrested for owning and managing a brothel – sentenced to 90 days • Arrested for vagrancy – sentenced to another 90 days • Forged mens signatures – charged with 34 counts of fraud • Then began a criminal career
Life of Crime • 9 Victims: Ruth Munroe, Everson Gillmouth, Alvaro "Bert" Montoya, Dorothy Miller, Benjamin Fink, Betty Palmer, Leona Carpenter, James Gallop, Vera Faye Martin • Between the ages of 50 and 80 • Poisoned her victims • Motive: Financial Reasons • Time span: 1982-1988
Behavior when caught • Calm and nonchalant • Maintains her innocence • Will maintain it till the day she dies
Trial of Dorothea • Trial began in October 1992 • A year long • Found seven victims • Found guilty of 3 murders and could not agree on others • Received life in prison without parole • Always maintained her innocence
Death • Died in prison March 27, 2011 • At age 82
