  3. Graduation is May 25, 2019 • It’s time to … • Choose your college and/or career plans • Choose your course of study in college • Apply to college/s • Take the ACT and/or SAT one more time • Apply for scholarships

  4. KISD Graduation Requirements: • 26 credits: • English (4 years) • Mathematics (4 years) (Alg. 1, Geom., Alg. 2, and 4th math) • Science (4 years) (Biology, Physical Science: IPC, Chemistry or Physics, 2 additional sciences) • Social Studies (4 years) (W. Geog., W. History, US History, Govt. & Econ.) • 2 years of World Languages • 1 year of Fine Arts • 1 year of Physical Education • ½ credit of 21st Century Skills • 5 ½ credits of Electives

  5. STAAR Testing Requirements: • STAAR EOC Testing: • English 1 • Algebra 1 • Biology • English 2 • US History

  6. Transcript Information (HAC) • 1. Credit total • 2. GPA (Grade Point Average) • 3. Rank (605 seniors) • 4. State Test Scores (STAAR) • 5. Attendance (asterisks * when have too many absences) • 6. Legend on the bottom of the transcript • 7. Final senior ranks computed at the end of the 5th six weeks

Request a Transcript: • Go to KISD website – www.kellerisd.net • Under the ‘Students/Families’ tab, select ‘Resources’ • Select ‘Transcripts/Records’ • Click link at center of page ‘Click here to order your transcripts & student records! • Follow the instructions on the left side of the page. • The first two transcripts are free in high school • The rest of the transcripts are $3.00 each with a $4.00 handling fee • It will save you money to order several at a time • You will need to look up the addresses for your colleges in order to input the shipping addresses • If you have any questions, please contact Scribsoft Technical Support at (877)287-6512.

Letters of Recommendations: • You may ask a teacher, coach, or a counselor for a letter of recommendation • Most colleges do not want more than 2 letters • Some colleges do not require letters of recommendations (check your college’s application requirements) • A Senior Profile Package is available in the counseling office. • Complete the packet and give it to the recommender at least 2 weeks before the letter is due. • Attach a resume or list of your activities, awards, and community service • Think carefully about the 6 adjectives to describe yourself • Include challenges, hardships, or special circumstances that you have had to overcome

  9. Goals: • Grade improvement • GPA and rank improvement • Credits to be recovered • Makeup hours for attendance issues • Retesting needs • ACT and SAT testing • Meet scholarship deadlines • College acceptance (University, Community, Technical) • Military acceptance • Enter workforce

College Information: • Take ACT and SAT tests this fall • ACT: October 27 – register by September 28 December 8 – register by November 2 • SAT: November 3 – register by October 5 December 1 – register by November 2 • TSI: Take the Accuplacer test with TCC (Reading, Writing, and Math) (Students may be exempt from TSI with strong ACT and SAT scores) • (Fee Waivers available for students on Free/Reduced Lunch) • Test scores must be sent directly to the colleges from ACT or College Board. Applications are not complete without test scores being sent on time to colleges.

College Applications & Deadlines: • October 15 – Priority Deadline to be considered for Scholarships (UT & A & M) • November 1 – Priority Deadline for Texas Tech • November 15 – Priority Deadline for Texas State • December 1 – Final Deadline for UT and Texas A & M (all materials must be there by this deadline. • February 1 – OU Deadline • March 1 – Priority Deadline for many area colleges, including University of North Texas and Tarleton (Check deadlines for individual colleges • March 15 – FAFSA Deadline (Financial Aid)

  12. Financing College: • Scholarships • Employment • Grants • Loans • FAFSA (You can submit your FAFSA as early as October 1, 2017.)

  13. College Scholarships: • College Scholarships – Most public Texas schools use a separate tab on Apply Texas that should be filled out with the college applications. Check your college websites for additional scholarships. • Scholarships from the area will be posted on Counselor’s Corner in the Announcements section • Scholarships.org – CHS pays for this service. It’s posted on Counselor’s Corner. The username is keller and the password is keller. • To get step-by-step tips to help get you to and through college text “COLLEGE” to 44044. • Other scholarship search engines: • Fastweb.com • Texasscholarships.org • College Board and ACT websites
