  4. OBJECTIVES * To understand the concept of action of sharp point * To acquire more knowledge about electrostatic charges * To enable to apply the acquire knowledge in practical life * To enable to develop scientific attitude * To enable to impart the acquire knowledge to the others.

  5. Van de Graff Generator It is an electrostatic high voltage generator which was designed by ROBERT J.VAN DE GRAFF. PURPOSE---- It is a device for generating very high potential difference of the order of few million volts for accelerating charged particles like protons and deutrons . APPLICATON--- 1.The beam of these charged accelerated particles is used to trigger the nuclear reaction . 2.Accelerated particle beams are used to break atoms for various experiments in physics . 3.In medicine,such beams are used to treat cancer.

  6. PRINCIPLE The working of Van de Graff Generator based on the principle of 1.Action of sharp point or corona discharge. 2.When charge given to spherical conducting surface,which is distributed uniformly over the surface.
