Academics Are Part of the Issue • “. . . one in four cannot identify the main idea in text, understand informational passages, or extend ideas in text.”(Moore et al, 1999) • ~60%-70% or more of • Algebra I students • struggle with the subject • and/or do not pass state • proficiency exams
