Infer Look For Clues or Hints That the Author Has Left For You About the Text.
Question Ask Questions About What You Are Reading: “Why did the Character Just do That?”
Determine Importance Think About Why You’re Reading. What are you Trying to Figure Out? Always Keep Your Goal in Mind.
Analyse Look Closely at the Text. How is it Written? What is it About? Do Some Parts Seem to go Together?
Synthesize Start to Build New Ideas. Think of What you Already Know and how this New Information You are Reading Builds on it.
Predict While Reading Ask: “What’s Going to Happen Next?”
Confirm Ask Yourself: “Does This Match my Predictions?”
Monitor Think: “How is my Reading?” “Is this Book Too Difficult?” “ What will the text be about…” “Is it Too Easy?”
Self-Correct Use a Fix-Up Strategy when you get Stuck. Try Re-reading, Read On, Ask for Help or Use Context Clues.
Word Solve Use a Variety of Strategies to Figure Out Un-Familiar Words. For Example, Look for Root Words, Common Rhymes, Read on or use a Dictionary.
