Business Group Initiatives • Enterprise Data Warehouse (eBusiness Group/) • Current enterprise metadata repository (MetRO) and the future metadata management solution. • Charter: seamless connection to the metadata management solution and responsible for documenting and maintaining metadata naming standards/content in the metadata repository.   9/28/03

  7. What is MetRO? Definition: • Tool to provide information about data (metadata) stored in data repositories throughout Intel. • Data includes such things as business definitions, technical definitions (data types, field lengths, etc) and mappings between the original source of the data and where it can be accessed. 9/28/03

  8. What is MetRO? MetRO brings in metadata from several sources including: • Databases - SQL 7.0, SQL 2000, Oracle, Teradata • Data Models - SilverRun, ERwin, ER Studio • Excel Templates - To bulk load metadata objects like Tables, Views, Entities, Attributes, etc. • Description Bulk Loader - For Table/Table Column and View/View Column descriptions. 9/28/03

E-Workforce • Multi-year vision and key Intel IT strategy for organizational effectiveness and productivity. • Targeted to produce dramatic business results by developing and integrating knowledge worker and team collaboration processes and tools with Intel’s enterprise business processes: • mobile computing and communication • rich collaboration • advanced information access • knowledge and expertise leveraging • business intelligence • knowledge worker learning and productivity 9/28/03

Metadata Challenges • Standardized vocabulary not available • Biz groups building their own as they migrate to KM tools such as Knowledge Compass or SharePoint or create new navigation schema for websites. • Tool to manage vocabulary with owners for updates and change control • working group exploring options • writing specifications • reviewing standards such as Dublin Core 9/28/03

Metadata Challenges • Proving the ROI for company • KM Value initiative to provide ROI on knowledge sharing • Methodology and value measurement tool developed • Measurable business value as key success criteria • IT needs to reduce the cost of personal document storage and improve efficiencies • Development of MyShared Docs tool for integration with Office 2003/SharePoint) 9/28/03
