2. Who is Rene Descartes? • Rene Descartes (1595-1650) was born in la haye march 31, 1596 and when he grew up he was a famous French mathematician, scientist and philosopher. He was arguably the first major philosopher in the modern area to make a serious effort to defeat skepticism.

3. What did he do? One thing that Rene Descartes did was make the connection Between the mind and the brain. He developed the theory that the nonphysical mind controlled the physical body through secretions in the pineal gland. Although this is incorrect, he was the first person to try this connection.

4. Rene Descartes‘ life • Rene’s father was a lawyer and magistrate, which apparently left little time for family. Descartes' mother died in May of the year following his birth, and he, his brother and sister were left to be raised by their grandmother in La Haye. At around ten years of age, in 1606, he was sent to the Jesuit college of La Fleche. He studied there until 1614, and in 1615 entered the University of Poitiers, then a year later he received his Baccalaureate and License in Canon & Civil Law.
