  2. Rene Descartes Rene was born on March 31, 1596 in La Haye, France Rene’s mother died when he was only 1 so he and his and sister, Pierre and Jeanne were raised by their grandmother. Rene died on February 11,1650.

  3. Facts • Rene was the first modern philosopher. • Rene was a volunteer in the Dutch Army for 11 years. • Rene was called the “Father of Modern Philosophy”

Rene Descartes life • Rene’s mother died when he was 1. • Rene’s father was a lawyer and a magistrate. • In 1616, he began the study of law at University of Poitiers • In 1649, Queen Christina of Sweden persuaded Descartes to come to Stockholm. On February 11, 1650, after only a few months in that cold climate, he died of pneumonia
