Noys 2010 1st Amendment Oroville HS. 1st Amendment Museum Wall. Oroville, Washington. The Beginnings. The Project.

Noys 20101st Amendment Oroville HS • 1st Amendment Museum Wall Oroville, Washington
The Project • Each student prepared an in-depth ‘museum piece’ on a particular important case or event in the 1st Amendment. They need to establish the factual background, display the outcome and show what, if any, changes have happened since the original outcome. We had a great variety of topics and designs by the students. • We also have a timeline along the bottom with index cards indicating the event or case and the original date of the item.
Conclusion • This has been a very enjoyable unit this year. We were able to have some great discussions and were able to connect the 1st Amendment to many ongoing current events: Mojave Cross, Washington State Initiative signatures, parental rights, Free speech at school, inflammatory words and more. Using the research for our Museum Wall our students are now putting together researched position papers for our state social studies end of year assessments. We were able to use our foundation and experience from NOYS 2010 to prepare us for doing quality, thoughtful work for our state assessment. Thanks for the great program.
