    1. “We’re Going on a Picnic”

    2. incident An incident is something unusual that happens and it is often an accident.

    3. incident During the pancake incident, a pancake flew across the room and hit Henry’s head. If someone wore pajamas to school I might call it the pajama incident. Would it be an incident if someone rode to school on a bus or on an elephant?

    4. incident Is sleeping in your bed an incident? Is falling out of bed and hitting your head an incident? Explain your answer. Could you write a story about an incident that happened to you at school? If a funny incident happened to you at your house, would you try to forget about it or would you tell a friend about it? Explain.

    5. gradual If something happens in a gradual way, it happens slowly.

    6. gradual In “Chewandswallow” the food comes down in a gradual way so no one got hurt. My hair grows in very gradually. Which happens gradually building a house or eating lunch?

    7. gradual Which would you do gradually, tie your shoe or build a castle with blocks? Which of these is an example of something happening gradually: an ice cube melting in a pot of boiling water or a caterpillar changing into a butterfly? I want to fill a bucket with water gradually. Should I use a hose or a tiny cup to put the water in the bucket? Explain.

    8. downpour A downpour is a large amount of rain that falls in a short time.

    9. downpour A downpour of maple syrup fell from the sky and almost flooded the town. A downpour of rain would cover the playground with water. Would you rather be outside during a downpour of rain or during a rain shower? Why?

    10. downpour What would happen to your hair and clothes if you were outside during a downpour? Would you mind a downpour of flowers? Would you mind a downpour of pinecones? Would you see a downpour of rain? sunshine? flowers?

    11. seek When you seek something, you look for or try to find it.

    12. seek The birds seek a nice place for their picnic. During a game of hide-and-seek, players hide and one person seeks them. At school do you usually seek a pencil or a favorite toy?

    13. seek If I will name something that you would want to seek, you should place your hand over your eyebrows and look around. a cute dog a birthday gift a good friend a mean person trash dirt a theater yummy food a new toy

    14. oblivious If you are oblivious to something, you do not see it or realize it is happening.

    15. oblivious Goose, Duck and Hen were oblivious when the animals snuck into the basket and ate all the fruit. If someone took my keys from my pocket and I did not notice, I would be oblivious to what happened. Would you be oblivious if you did not see an ant on your shirt or a frog on your shirt?

    16. oblivious Say “You are oblivious” if I describe a situation in which someone is not paying attention. I said “hello” when the principal walked by. I read my book while a gorilla nibbled at the pages. I pushed the child on the swing when he asked me to. I jogged into a puddle and did not notice that I got wet. I kept teaching even after everyone went home.

    17. indecisive When you are indecisive, you cannot make up your mind about something.

    18. indecisive The birds were indecisive about where to stop. When I cannot decide what to eat for lunch, I am being indecisive. Would you be indecisive about what to choose at a restaurant or about which pencil to use?

    19. indecisive I will act out four situations that happened while you were shopping for a hat. If you are being indecisive, you should say “Be more decisive!”. “Hmm, should I choose red or blue? I just don’t know.” “I like the red hat. I will buy it.” “No, wait. Maybe I should get the blue one instead.” “I’m not sure if I even want a hat. Let me see.
