Graduation Requirements Effective with the freshman entering in 2011-2012 and beyond, the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) recognizes students who demonstrate levels of performance equivalent to those of college students or work done by professionals in the areas of art, science, business, industry, or community service. Students must perform at the Advanced Academic Performance standard in Algebra II and English III of the End of Course Exams.
GPA – Grade Point Average • Do your best! • Applying for college starts fall 2014 • Junior year GPA will be on applications
State of Texas Assessment for Academic Readiness (STAAR) • Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the state of Texas implemented a new state assessment program that will eventually replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). • Beginning with the 2011-2012 entering freshman class and all subsequent classes, students must take and earn a passing cumulative average on 12 End-of-Course (EOC) exams. STAAR End-of-Course exams will be required for the following courses: · English I, English II, English III; · Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II; · Biology, Chemistry, Physics; · World Geography, World History, U.S. History. • In accordance with state law, the EOC must count for 15% of a student’s final grade for the course. (This was waived this school year and last school year)
Summer School at TSTC • Only courses that do not have an EOC attached to them • Courses that students may need to catch up on from freshmen or sophomore year
PSAT/NMSQT • Measures • Critical reading skills • Math problem-solving skills • Writing skills • Why Take It? • Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses • Enter the competition for scholarships from NMSC • Help prepare for the SAT • Receive information from colleges when you check "yes" to Student Search Service

SAT Tests • The SAT measure what you have learned in school and how well you can apply that knowledge • Assesses how well you analyze and solve problems • SAT scores are used for college admissions purposes because the test predicts college success • All scores are reported on the 200-800 scale • Most students take the SAT in the spring of their junior year and again in the fall of their senior year of high school
ACT • The ACT is universally accepted for college admission. • The ACT is curriculum-based. • The ACT is not an aptitude or an IQ test • Questions on the ACT are directly related to what students have learned in high school courses in English, mathematics, and science. • The ACT also provides test takers with a unique interest inventory that provides valuable information for career and educational planning and a student profile section that provides a comprehensive profile of a student's work in high school and his or her future plans. • The ACT includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, including a short break (or just over four hours if you are taking the ACT Plus Writing). Actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes (plus 30 minutes if you are taking the ACT Plus Writing).
ACT Fees • Basic fees $34.00 for the ACT (No Writing) $49.50 for the ACT Plus Writing (other charges may apply) ECHS Senior Night
