8. Applying For Financial Aid • Apply for financial aid every year after January 1st. • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) • Deadline is March 2nd.

10. A Financial Aid Offer will be sent once the Office of Student Financing receives: • Your Student Aid Report from the Federal Processor • Any supplemental information that has been requested • Notification of your official acceptance into the program

12. Stafford Loans Subsidized Loans: • Need based loans. • Government pays interest while student is in school. Unsubsidized Loans: • Not need based loans. • Borrower pays interest six months after he/she has graduated. Guaranteed & Deferrable • Must be enrolled ½ time

14. Outside Scholarships Outside Scholarships: • These funds are not associated with MSMC. Outside organizations award these funds to students and are coordinated with student’s financial aid award. • Students research and apply on their own.

15. Parent Plus Loan • Federal loan offered to parent. • Based on credit. • Student must be enrolled at least ½ time. • Repayment begins after the loan is fully disbursed. • If loan is rejected; becomes an unsubsidized loan under student name.

16. Independent Student • 24 years of age or older • Enrolled in a master’s or doctorate program • Married • Have children who receive more than ½ of their support from you • Have dependents other than children or spouse • Ward or dependent of the court • Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces

17. Merit Awards Merit Awards: • Upon application to MSMC, you will be considered for a merit award based upon your academic achievement • Awarded by the Admissions Department • Eligible amount $5,000 - $10,000 • GPA minimum requirement 3.0

18. Alternative Financing • TMS Payment Plan: (see business office for more information 310-954-4040). • Private Loans: Credit based and sometimes require a credit worthy co-signer. Interest rates vary, depending on credit history. Repayment occurs six months after graduation.

Common issues that disqualify candidates: • Missing or late transcripts • Not submitting up-to-date transcripts • Missing or late letters of reference • Reactivation forms without Prerequisite Checklist and updated Personal Statement Facts Regarding Admission There are only 10 spaces available for transfer students The Office of Admission receives over 251 applications for these few spaces, therefore all applications must be complete and all application materials received on or before the deadline. No exceptions will be made.

28. Kaplan Exam • Required for all direct to program candidates • Offered on campus to qualified candidates after the application deadline • Covers the following sections: →Reading → Writing → Math → Science

29. Pre-Nursing Option • Candidates have not finished all prerequisite courses and would like to finish them at MSMC • Students will take classes over the course of one academic year and be eligible for admission the following fall • Does not guarantee admission to the BSN program, however, more spaces are available for pre-nursing students

30. Repeat Policy And Expiration Rule • A student may repeat a prerequisite course no more than once • Failure (C- and below) of any two required prerequisite courses or one course twice renders an applicant ineligible for the Nursing programs at Mount St. Mary’s College • Science courses are only valid for 5 years

Options through TBSN LVN to RN option Must hold LVN license, have taken all prerequisites, and: • Religious Studies • Philosophy- Moral Values • Art or Music • Minimum 3.0 GPA • Pass 4 Challenge Exams with a score of 75% on each RN to BSN program – 1 to 2 years • Must hold RN license • Must have graduated from accredited college with an AD.N • Validation of clinical competence form • N40 Roy adaptation model – offered in summer and spring

35. 30 Unit Option - LVNs Non-Degree Option Allows NCLEX-RN exam after completing 26 units of required courses. Notes: • May not be endorsed by other states • Maylimit opportunities for career advancement • Does not receive a degree from MSMC
