Basic needs of living things First/second Grade Life Science Andrea Lefever
Living Things All Living things have the same basic needs. Living things must find their basic needs in their environment. If living things do not satisfy their needs they will die.
1. Nutrients and Energy Living things need nutrients and energy to grow and live. Nutrients are found in food (animals) and in soil (plants). Most organisms get their energy from the sun.
2.Water Water is needed for all living things. Humans are mostly water. Without water you could live for only a few days.
3. Air Living things on land, breath oxygen from the air that they breathe. Some Living things in water, get their oxygen from the water they live in (fish), but others come up to breathe the air (whales). Plants use carbon dioxide from the air to create the oxygen that we breathe.
4. Place to live A place for a living thing to live is called a habitat. A Habitat is a place that offers space and the right conditions for a living thing
