  3. What does the sun do for us? • Sunny days have a positive impact on our mood, increase our level of physicalactivity, make many social events & gatherings possible, and even benefit our health by providing our bodies with essential vitamin D.

  4. 3 Types of Skin Cancer • Basal cell carcinoma-slow-growing form of skin cancer. • Squamous cell carcinoma-a type of tumor that affects the skin. • Malignant Melanoma- leading cause of death from skin disease.

  6. Uncontrollable Risk Factors • A lighter natural skin color • Family history of skin cancer • A history of sunburns early in life • Skin that burns, freckles, reddens easily, or becomes painful in the sun • Blue or green eyes • Blond or red hair • Certain types and a large number of moles

  7. Controllable Risk Factors • Environmental Awareness • Education • Using sun block • Re-apply often • Check the expiration date • Protective clothing • Hats, sunglasses, light colored clothing, etc. • Avoiding PEAK sun time • 10am-2pm
