Reminder: Combined Skills Tests 5-9 are due on Tuesday. They are located On pages 586 to 595. Make sure to paraphrase! Step 1: Download all documents The documents you need for the project are all on Engrade. I have also supplied them for you on my website. To have access click on this link www.adaliareyna.com/sociologydownloads.html
Step 2: The instructions Your project will come from the following selection: “Effects of the Automobile” by James M. Henslin pages (520-523 Reading 80 textbook)
Step 3: Build some background knowledge Before reading the selection, activate your prior knowledge by watching “history of Model T” video. Write a short summary of what you learned on the project answer sheet. Click here for the video: http://www.adaliareyna.com/Sociologybackground.html If you want to get full credit on your summary, make sure you use YOUR OWN WORDS.
Step 4 :paraphrase (your favorite part, I know) • Read the story and paraphrase each paragraph, making sure to identify the topic as well. Use the topic/paraphrasesheetfor this. The template will be available for download on Engrade. Press the sound button for an explanation:
Step 6: Vocabulary Define the 4 provided vocabulary words found in the selection. The vocabulary words should include both a guess and a dictionary definition. They are available on the vocabulary sheet. Press the button for more directions
Step 7 : Author’s Writing Patterns Identify the main pattern of the entire selection. Write the author’s pattern on the project answer sheet. The patterns are on your objective 4 notes. They are as follows: • Sequence • list • compare/contrast • cause/effect • definition/example. Choose only 1 to write in the blank.
Step 8 : Author’s Purpose Identify the author’s purpose. Write the author’s purpose on the project answer sheet. The author’s purpose is discussed on your objective 3 notes. They are as follows: • To inform • To persuade • To instruct • To entertain Choose only 1 to write in the blank.
Step 9 : Comprehension Questions Answer comprehension questions 1-16 found on pages 523-526. Write the answers to the comprehension questions on the project answer sheet. Do this section last. If you do all other sections first, the questions will be much easier to answer.
Step 10: The Summary • Complete the summary on page 528. • The summary must be typed with the 6 blanks bolded and underlined. Do NOT turn in the textbook page. The summary must be retyped and turned in with the project.
Step 11: project order • Please turn in your project in the following order: • Grade sheet • Project Answer Sheet • Paraphrase sheet • Vocabulary sheet • summary
FAQ’s • When is the project due? • for Tuesday/Thursday classes, the project is due next Thursday (December 8th) • For Monday/Wednesday classes, the project is due on Wednesday (December 7th) • Does it have to be typed? • Yes. Handwritten projects will not be accepted. • Where can I get the downloads? • The downloads are available on both my website (www.adaliareyna.com/sociologydownloads.html) and on Engrade.com (click on “sociology project” under your list of assignments). • Can I work with a partner? • Yes, you may work with a partner. It is optional and no extra credit will be awarded for it. You and your partner will turn in one project and both of you will earn the same grade.
