School Improvement Plan • Creating a supportive and nurturing school culture where everyone feels safe and is ready to learn • Be informed and be involved • Set the example for all students • Reading at grade level by the end of second grade (and maintaining grade level reading levels for grades 3-5.) • Encourage your student to read every night • Read with or to your student • Visit the local library • Have appropriate books, magazines, etc. for your student to choose • Strong foundational skills in mathematics • Review homework • Practice basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division math facts
Important Information • Safety • Visitors/Volunteers Sign in/out in office • Safety Drills • Dismissal – If you are changing the student’s typical way home, please notify the teacher and the office • Attendance • Mandatory • Written Notes or Email for Absences (More than 3 days in a row need a note from doctor) • Excessive Absences will be referred to the PPW • Late Arrival (after 8:30AM) and/or Early Dismissals (before 2:55PM) • Communications • Home/Teacher (Agenda and email, Not Dojo) • Weekly Wrap Up (Newsletters) • ConnectEd Messages
New this year • Car Rider Dismissal Procedure • Safe dismissal of the 548 students • 65 vehicles – 86 students (last year 30-40 vehicles – 50 students) • Car riders are students who are picked up in a vehicle that is in the car rider line in the front of the school • All other students are dismissed as walkers (except for those that ride the bus or day care vans) • Car riders gather in the cafeteria and are called to the car rider line when their vehicle arrives • Detailed guidance is available on the website and PTO Facebook page • Thank you for your patience! • Start of the Day • The first 15 minutes of the day will focus on Social/Emotional Learning • Morning Announcements begin at 8:25 • Instruction begins at 8:30
New this year • Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) • Proactive program to incentivize and recognize positive behavior • The Crofton Meadows Way – Work Hard. Be Kind. Be Safe. • Positive behaviors will be recognized by Dojo points and class incentives • Monthly Celebrations to recognize efforts to follow the Crofton Meadows Way • Birthday Celebrations • We celebrate student birthdays by announcing them on the morning announcements • Students come to the office to get a choice of a small prize and a birthday sticker • We are asking parents not send in edible treats (i.e. cupcakes, etc.) for birthday celebrations
Curriculum Highlights • AACPS approved curriculum taught in all classes (Specific details are posted by grade on the school website) • New Foundational Literacy Program in Grades K-2 • GT/Advanced Learners (Grades 3-5) • William and Mary Language Arts Program (Reading) • Mentoring Mathematical Minds (Math) • STEM Applications are embedded in the Math and Science Curriculum • Opportunities for Movement are embedded throughout the day
