  2. WHAT IS MALARIA? MALARIA is an infectious disease caused by a parasite (plasmodium) which is transmitted from human to human by the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.

  3. SYMPTOMS OF MALARIA • Malarial attacks persist over • 4 to 6 hours with shaking chills, • high fever, and sweating, and • are often associated with tiredness, headache vomiting sensation, • vomiting, abdominal pains, • dry cough, muscle or joint pain, • and back ache. • The attacks may occur every • other day or every third day.

  5. MALARIAL PARASITE IN BLOOD

  6. BLOOD TEST REPORT A microscope NAME OF THE PATIENT: RAJAT AGE :11 YEARS DIAGNOSIS:FEVER WITH CHILLS AND RIGORS RESULT:MALARIAL PARASITE FOUND

  7. Invention • Dr Ronald Ross a British • doctor(& a scientist) was working in a hospital at Secunderabad in the year 1890s. • He won Nobel prize for his work • in 1902. • He worked for years to find out this. • He found malarial • parasite in the • section of a common • type of mosquito.

  9. Medicine for Malaria • The name cinchona came from the Chinchon, the wife of a Peruvian viceroy, who was cured of a malarial type of fever by using the bark of the cinchona tree in 1638 • Herbal medicine is used around the world today. • Cinchona, or quinine bark, is one of the rainforest's most famous plants. • Quinine is very bitter . • In Brazilian herbal medicine quinine bark is considered a tonic, a digestive stimulant, and fever-reducer. It is used for anaemia, indigestion, gastrointestinal disorders, general fatigue, fevers, malaria and as an appetite stimulant.

  10. How to prevent oneself from Malaria? USE- • Mosquito repellent • Bed nets • Clothing that covers the body .

  11. How to prevent breeding of mosquitoes?

  12. Blood • Blood is the fluid of life. • Without blood the human body would stop working. • As the heart pumps it forces blood through a network of tube-like blood vessels which branch out throughout every part of the body. • There are three main types of blood vessels: • Arteries- the largest and thickest of the blood vessels • Capillaries- the smallest blood vessels • Veins- similar to arteries but because they transport blood at a lower pressure they are not as strong as arteries

  13. What is Anaemia? • It occurs when we have an abnormally low amount of red blood cells. • Red blood cells contain haemoglobin, a red pigment which gives blood its colour. • The job of haemoglobin is to carry oxygen around the body. • When haemoglobin levels are low, the blood fails to supply the body's tissues with sufficient amounts of oxygen. • As your lungs and heart will then have to work harder to get oxygen into the blood,.

  14. Symptoms of Anaemia, • Difficulty in breathing will begin. • Pale appearance • Fainting • A red, sore tongue and a reduced sense of taste.

  15. What can cause anaemia? • Diet low in iron. • Internal bleeding, for example if you have an ulcer or a tumour • Diet low in vitamin B12 or folic acid. • Blood diseases like leukaemia • Infections, such as Malaria

  16. How to identify anaemia ? • The main test is a full blood count, this is basically a blood test that looks at the number, size and shape of red blood cells.

  17. How is anaemia treated? • An improved diet or by taking supplements. If the cause of your anaemia is vitamin B12 deficiency then your doctor may prescribe vitamin B12 injections. • If your anaemia has been caused by internal bleeding e.g. ulcers then medicines or surgery may be required. • If anaemia is severe then you may also need to have a blood transfusion.

  18. What happens if anaemia is left untreated? • If Anaemia is left untreated your symptoms will get worse and you may become very tired and weak, you may also suffer from leg pains while walking. The body's ability to fight infection may also be weakened so you may pick up infections more easily.

  19. How to avoid from being Anaemic? • Eat balanced diet. • Eat food that contains good sources of iron, folic acid and vitamin B12. • Jaggery, Amla, green leafy vegetables, apple, brinjal.

  20. Foods Rich in iron content
